When you have your wood floors refinished, you are getting a custom on-sight finished floor. Better than anything you can buy off the shelf. You get to pick the color. You get to pick the sheen. You end up with a table-top smooth floor. Unless you want it hand scraped and distressed. Yes, we can do that also We sand the floor with 4-6 grades of sandpaper. It may sound like a lot, but we are taking it off paper layer by paper layer. You don’t want to sand off more wood than is necessary, but you also have to sand out all of the scratches and imperfections. We hand scrape all of the nooks and corners where our machines don’t get. We buff the floor and get it tabletop smooth.
Once the floor is tabletop smooth, we wash the floor with water mixed with denatured alcohol. We let that dry. That process opens the pores/grain of the wood so that the stain can penetrate.
Once the water has dried, we wipe on the stain. Any color and we can make custom colors. We let the stain set for a couple of minutes and then we wipe it off. Once the stain has dried, we apply 3 coats of residential polyurethane or you can upgrade to a commercial grade polyurethane. We do a very fine sanding in between each coat of polyurethane to ensure a smooth wood floor.
